Hello Everyone and Happy Saturday!
This is a trying time in our world, and I have to admit that, despite my best efforts, I am starting to go a bit stir crazy. Of course, because I am on maternity leave right now and taking care of my almost 6-month old, I don’t get the chance to leave my home all that often…but, each week I would plan an excursion with my husband over the weekend, and I find that in this time of social distancing, the loss of those events to look forward to has been rough. I also haven’t had a chance to see my family in weeks, and that is really very difficult because, as much as I enjoy time alone to read, I am extremely social and enjoy collecting in groups with friends and family to eat, drink and be merry.
So, I have been working hard to find daily doses of happiness and excitement amidst this isolating time. As I mentioned in a previous post, reading and cuddling with my baby are two remarkable sources of solace, but when I want a bit of extra fun, I turn to music, fresh air and delicious food.
Yesterday, Dua Lipa released her second album “Future Nostalgia” and, let me tell you, it is INCREDIBLE! My husband, son and I spent the entire day listening to it on repeat and bobbing our heads and hips to every song. Some of my favourites include “Cool”, “Love Again” and “Break My Heart”, and I decided today to put together a “Feelin’ Myself” Playlist on my phone that consists of some of the songs that have lifted my mood over the years. Naturally, Dua Lipa features heavily on it, and I would recommend creating a playlist to groove to so that when you’re cooking or cleaning or just chilling at home, you have a reason to smile and sing at the top of your lungs!
TAKE A WALK
Even the tiniest bit of fresh air can make a huge difference. TBH, I’m not a huge fan of the outdoors, but being cooped inside is uncomfortable and grating after awhile, so I recognize the importance of getting outside for a walk or run. Once it gets a bit warmer and easier on my joints, I’ll go back to my outdoor runs, but for now, I’ve tried to head out with my husband and son a few times a week for a stroll around the neighbourhod. My son, as you can see in the picture below, doesn’t seem to be a big fan of the so-called “great” outdoors, but hopefully he’ll come around eventually…hahaha!
What could make you feel better than a delicious warm cookie or some french fries? I have always looked at food as a source of comfort (I am half Italian after all!), and cookies are my absolute FAVOURITE food in the entire world. Truly, I think Cookie Monster might be my long-lost brother. That being said, I love basically any type of junk food, and while I do my best to avoid these foods during the week and focus on my at-home exercise regime, the weekends are a time when I feel like I can treat myself a bit, so I bust out my Pillsbury cookie packages and go to town. One tiny cheat meal isn’t going to hurt me, right? 😉
